Sherfane Rutherford in NPL, joins Sudurpaschim Royals for NPL Season 3

Sudurpaschim Royals are not done yet. The franchise has signed another West Indies power-hitter, Sherfane Rutherford, for the third season of the Nepal Premier League.

Rutherford is known for his explosive batting and big-hitting ability, capable of clearing the boundary with ease and changing the momentum of a match in the space of a few deliveries.

Rutherford by the numbers

  • T20Is: 61 matches, 1,123 runs at an average of 28.07 and a strike rate of 154.25, with 8 fifties and a best of 84
  • ODIs: 31 matches, 873 runs at an average of 36.37, including 1 century (113) and 8 fifties
  • All T20 cricket: 283 matches, 5,090 runs at a strike rate of 142.05, with 24 fifties
  • List A: 66 matches, 1,723 runs, including 2 centuries

His T20I strike rate of over 150 underlines just how quickly he can score, making him an ideal finisher in the middle and lower order. He also offers a part-time bowling option, with best T20 figures of 4/24.

A Caribbean power pack

With Rutherford and Pakistan’s Haider Ali, the Royals have built one of the most aggressive batting line-ups in the tournament. Opposition bowlers can expect little room for error when facing this middle order.

Eyes on the title

After finishing as runners-up last season, Sudurpaschim have clearly strengthened their squad with one goal in mind: going one step further and lifting the trophy.

Their campaign begins with a blockbuster opener against defending champions Lumbini Lions on October 26 at TU International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, a rematch of the 2025 final.
